Computer Lab - Monday, 9/24

1. Log onto Texids. Welcome!
2. Click here and read the following HOTO summary of the life of Mirabeau Buonaparte Lamar (the dude after whom our school is named). Notice the straightforward, objective style. This is the style you should follow in writing the history of your classmate. You should still make it interesting, but avoid cutesy-fruitsy embellishments such as those I wrote on the Instructions page.
3. Work on your History of a Classmate essay the rest of the period. Be sure to follow the Instructions handout. (You can get a copy of the Instructions here.) I will be checking with you to make sure you are on the right track. Please ask me if you need any help.
4. If you finish the essay and I have approved it, you can do things like find pictures of the cities the person has lived, schools the person has attended, etc. Be creative (but factual).
5. The Title Page, Essay, and Notes from Primary Sources & Interview(s) are due - stapled or in a folder - when you arrive to class on Tuesday (tomorrow).

Comments on Schlegel Quotation & History of a Classmate

Due Wed, 9/18 - Comment on Schlegel Quotation & Read Classmates' Comments
1. Be sure to post your 3-paragraph comment on the quotation by Schlegel. Most of you got this done in the Computer Lab on Monday. Since the Comments feature was not working right, though, the comments are scattered all over the various posts, so please rewrite your Comment for the Computer Lab post of Monday, September 17. You can click here to get to it quickly. Please read all the comments by your classmates by Wednesday, as per the instructions given you in Computer Lab. Be sure to use just your first name when posting your comment. Don't give your full Gaggle email address.

Due Tue, 9/25 - History of a Classmate
You did a good job today of taking notes from the primary sources, students. Thank you very much for your cooperation. Here are a few reminders of instructions given in class.
1. Follow the Instructions for Essay: History of a Classmate given you in class. You can get another copy of it here.
2. Remember, there is no excuse for not having enough information for your notes and essay. If you were not able to get enough information on one person, do two or more persons, enough to get sufficient notes. Also, you should interview the person(s) you are researching in order to get enough information.
3. Please use your Gaggle email to write me if you have any questions about the assignment or just ask me in class.

In the Space Called "Texas"

For Fri, 9/14
1. Click here to see a 9-map sequence showing key developments of human society in time and in the space that came to be called "Texas." The keyboard shortcut of holding down the Ctrl key and moving the mouse wheel will help you zoom in and out. I had to crop part of the maps to fit them onto the page, so check the textbook if you need a fuller look (See page numbers below). If you think about it, every map in our textbook has to do with the development of human societies in time and in space.
2. Due Friday: Analyze the maps and write 9 statements showing insight into what you see. Three can be obvious, three should be not-so-obvious, and three should be "genius level," as described in class. You may do more for extra credit.
3. Here are the page numbers again, in case you have difficulty downloading the maps. For the two maps not found in the textbook, I am giving you online links to the maps.
